3 Things You Should Know About Caring For Your HVAC System

Nearly every home in America has an HVAC system. This is the best way to keep the temperature constant throughout the summer and the winter. However, even though people have an HVAC in their house they may not know what to do to properly care for it. Here are some things that you should do to make sure that your HVAC system is working properly.

1. Get Regular Tune Ups

In attempts to save money you might think that it is better to forgo the annual tune up on the HVAC system. What many people don't realize is that it is much cheaper to get the tune up rather than pay for the repairs done the road if something were to break. For example, you can get tune up deals all year round. But if you have to do a major repair or replacement of the HVAC system it could cost you thousands. Without regular maintenance, it is likely that your HVAC system will need some sort of major air conditioning repair at some point. Thus, have a standing appointment for the AC maintenance man to come once a year to tune up your system.

2. Clean The Outdoor Unit

Many people check on the indoor unit often to make sure that it looks right and is functioning properly. However, many people fail to remember that keeping the outdoor unit clean and functional is an important part of keeping the whole system working properly. This is why you should always be walking around the outdoor unit. You should remove any leaves or debris from the fan. Additionally, be careful when you move in not to plant any large plants by the unit. Shrubbery and trees will obstruct the unit over time so that it doesn't work right.

3. Change The Filters Regularly

Lastly, many people fail to remember that they should be changing the filters on their HVAC system. Most homeowners don't change the filter as often as they should and because of it they suffer from a low functioning unit, poor air quality, and the risk of the unit completely giving out on them. Air filters are pretty inexpensive and are nothing compared to the amount that you would spend if you had to repair or replace parts of the system. This is why it is recommended that you keep some filters at your house and change them on a schedule, usually every couple months.

These are just a few of the things you need to know about caring for your HVAC system.

About Me

cool and hot areas of the home

I live in an older home that we are working to renovate. There are three areas of the house that just don't seem to get cool in the summer or get warm in the winter. I have done all that I can to try to keep these areas comfortable, but I wasn't able to do much until I hired an HVAC technician to come out and figure out why those areas were so uncomfortable. This blog will show you what can be causing areas of your home to be less comfortable than other areas when it comes to temperature during both winter and summer.
